Baptist Church Protests Homosexuality; Angers Southern Baptist Convention

The veteran feels that the congregation at Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas may want to reexamine Christ's feelings towards gays, as all people. Christ loves Everyone. It's scattered throughout the Bible in many places, but this particular group apparently missed it. They demonstrated in protest to a [possible] school-approved gay-straight alliance, carrying signs saying 'God hates fags' and 'Fags are worthy of death' (see photo in original news story). The veteran is appalled that members of a modern congregation, especially in such a major denomination as the baptist church, could apply this kind of highly negative pressure on any group, let alone simply gays. Perhaps they're attempting to get shipped off to Jerry Falwell's fold instead?
The Southern Baptist Convention expressed some outrage at the actions of the group (it was led by Phelps' grandson), stating that Pastor (?) Phelps is not part of the Southern Baptist Convention and that "we don't want him to be."

You are quite right in the statement that "God Loves Us All" Our world would be more of a mess if he didn't. It is in this sense we have the ability to forgive, because he first forgave us. EX.1- A good and recent example of this would be in this past weeks news of the man that shot and killed those people in Georgia. Sad and heart wrenching news.
Will God forgive the man who did this unspeakable crime againist his fellow man? Yes is the answer if the man will stop for just a moment and go to God in prayer for forgiveness and confess his sin. It will also be necessary for him to be truly sorry in his heart for the harm and hurt he caused and to at least make an attempt to pay restitatuion.
Ex.-2 I have to admit that Jerry Falwell is a bit of the "old crust" when it comes to modern religion, but if you look at the man (Falwell), you can also see he is a just man in his crusade.I will not take his side even under duress. He teaches from the Bible the literal "Word Of God." This is the way and fashion the Southern Baptists have preached and have been doing so for over 150 years. The protesters were wrong for showing outward and brazen displays of hate because this goes against the very core of Christs teachings. They should be made to give 50 "Hail Mary's" and forced to watch re-runs of "The Flying Nun"
God is also specific in his teachings. It is a sin for a "Man to lie with another Man and or Beast" and so for the women. He who knows all, knows that this kind of lifestyle is dangerous and tragically, will wind up hurting everyone involved.
Ex.-3 We have known since 1985 that the H.I.V.& A.I.D.S virus epidemic, was ushered in from San Francisco's Gay community down on "Bath House Row" See, at first, this was just a horrible disease that belonged to them. Humanity was so wrong about this one. Since then, it has slowly crept onto and into every conciveble area of the American landscape and the world, with each mile gaining on us quicker than the one preceeding it.30,ooo,ooo and still counting.
Ex.-4 God doesn't "hate fags." God is incapable of hate. People are the ones capable of hate. He just wants them to turn away from this sin because he knows what it is doing to our country, let alone the rest of the world; not to mention the fact that you will not pass go, and will get a one way ticket to hell.
Ex.-5a.The "Democratic Left" wants to shift the issue. They will be the first to respond to an issue such as this because they see it as an infringment on the Gay people. Once again, the protesters were wrong to act in the way they did. They are not earning frequent flyer miles with this type of rude behavior.
Here is where the reader needs to take notice. 5b- They take your mind and eyes off the real issue which is Homosexuality. It is a sin not only in Gods eyes, but in the eyes of every decent person who is able to tell right from wrong. They want to make you forget all about the clear and present danger of being a Homosexual and all that comes (no pun intended) asscioated with it. To borrow a line from my great-uncle "Pity,Pity,Pity"......
I wonder if the ones whom were offended were so clouded in thought, they never gave it second thought, as to what they would do if one of their own children came down with this deadly virus, knowing it all started with sexual acts between men?

As always, I respect your opinion. In Christian eyes, homosexuality is, indeed, a sin. However, in the eyes of non-Christians, homosexuality is not always a sin or even necessarily a perversion of the norm. One must always remember that, in an effort to cater to a diverse audience, one must keep religious views out of political discussion. You make a very valid point in mentioning that these protesters were acting in a rather un-Christian manner.
